Gabriel is currently accepting new students of all levels. If you are interested in an in-person private lesson (NYC area) or internationally via Zoom, please send a message. All instruments are welcome, as lesson topics include improvisation, theory, composition, fretboard knowledge, technique studies, harmony, musicianship, and more. Every student learns differently and at their own pace, and Gabriel creates individualized lesson plans to fit each students’ specific needs.

What students are saying

“I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to take some lessons with Gabriel. In addition to being an incredible guitarist and musician, he is a perceptive and diligent teacher. He possesses the ability to identify the gaps of knowledge a student is trying to overcome, and to establish effective lesson plans to address these. Throughout the process, Gabriel was patient and encouraging. With his guidance, I was able to improve both my playing and understanding of music theory to a degree that has provided a strong foundation to continue to develop and grow as a musician. If you get an opportunity to learn from him, I can't recommend it enough.”

- George Shunick, Manhattan, New York

“¡Excelente!

- Abdel Green, Cayey, Puerto Rico

“When I began my lessons with Vicéns, I was on a guitar plateau; he helped me use the knowledge I’ve acquired over the years to understand chord changes better, develop my ideas, and pursue my one voice in the guitar. As the lessons moved forward, I began to visualize complex harmony in the guitar in the simplest way possible; I expanded my harmonic colors and used them to develop my musical language.”

- Pierre Bou Salcedo, Houston, Texas

“Gabriel is a fantastic guitar teacher. In our lessons, we focus on fretboard mastery, voice leading, and jazz vocabulary. I am a very experienced jazz guitarist with over 30 years of playing and he still is able to keep learning exciting and fresh.”

- John Sterling, Anchorage, Alaska

“I’ve been playing guitar for almost 20 years and touring in indie bands most of my adult life, but eventually, I hit a wall with my musicianship that I couldn’t get past on my own. Gabriel really helped me take my guitar playing to the next level, filling out gaps in my understanding of the fretboard, unlocking new approaches to chord voicing, and acquiring a feeling for modes that’s changed the way I solo. I couldn’t recommend his teaching more strongly for players looking to develop the piecemeal knowledge of their instruments into a steadfast ground for confident performance and fluid improvisation.”

- Peter Bradley, Brooklyn, New York

“I’ve had the pleasure of taking jazz guitar lessons (improvisation, harmony, comping, melody, and composition) with Gabriel over the past year. A consummate guitarist, musician, and instructor, Gabriel will challenge you in novel ways that lead to one outcome: making you better than you thought possible. I absolutely and unequivocally recommend him for taking your playing to the next level.”

- Kyle McEwen, Ormond Beach, Florida

Gabriel Vicens at El Bastion, Puerto Rico

- Joaquin Narbaiz, Buenos Aires, Argentina

"As a self-taught guitarist, I reached a point where I felt stuck with what I could play and wanted to expand my guitar knowledge & musical style. Gabriel understood what I was looking for and helped me greatly in venturing into jazz guitar and in a better understanding of guitar theory and concepts, which I was missing by not having any musical preparation. He accommodates the lessons to what I wanted, ranging from guitar theory to improvisation to playing my favorite jazz tunes, and always being very patient and encouraging. He always gave me something to work on as assignment for the next lesson, which challenges you to apply what you learned on the lessons. One of the best jazz guitarists from Puerto Rico; I highly recommend Gabriel to anyone looking to improve their music knowledge."

- Ervin Soto, Ponce, Puerto Rico
